The Haagen Dazs is located in Fira Santorini in the caldera area.In this area a clothing store was housed with a thirteen feet deep vaulted cave structure,a typical door-window elevation and a small courtyard towards the side of the caldera. The change of use has uncovered new and different needs. The existing traditional shell of the interior remained solid its’ main change being on the front side where two big double doors were designed for the necessary light and ventilation of the shop. The main goal was that the final result would fit with the landscape so as not to offend the area itself. And also to combine the local architecture of the island with a distinctive modern design and modern architectural forms and lines.Local traditional materials such as the black volcanic rock which is placed on the inner face, the stone pori around the doors and the traditional black pebble in the courtyard were considered necessary and essential in the design.Handmade structures and strict selection of a few design furniture pieces and lighting equipment give the prestige of the company to the whole space. The small courtyard where the built-in blocks were designed along with the handmade tables, enables the guest to enjoy delicious Haagen Dazs ice-creams,having next to them the spectacular view of the black volcano of Santorini.
